Foresters, Côte d’Or lose to bow out

 

 

Local clubs Foresters FC and Côte d’Or FC are out of the two African club competitions organised by the Confederation of African Football.

Seychelles Football Federation Cup winners Foresters FC were eliminated from the TotalEnergies Caf Confederation Cup after losing 0-4 to FC 15 Agosto de Akonibe of Equatorial Guinea in their second leg match of the preliminary round played at the Estadio de Ebebiyín on September 21, 2025.

In their ‘home’ match played in the same stadium in Equatorial Guinea, Foresters FC beat home team FC 15 Agosto de Akonibe 1-0 to take a slight advantage. The goal was scored by Nigerian player Kazeem Adeyeri in the first half. 

Coached Harold Hoareau, Foresters FC have now bowed out the qualification round on 4-1 aggregate score.

Following the win, FC 15 Agosto de Akonibe will now face South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC who were knocked out by Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the semifinal last season.

Meanwhile, in the Caf Champions League competition, Côte d’Or FC were beaten 3-1 by Ivorian club Stade d'Abidjan in the preliminary round return match played on Wednesday September 24, 2025, at Stade Robert Champroux, in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Ivorians had already put themselves in a strong position after the first leg played at the Côte d’Or Stadium in Mauritius, with a 2-0 victory.

They confirmed their dominance at home, winning 3-1 at Stade Robert Champroux. Samaké Nze Bagnama netted a brace in the 12th and 43rd minutes, before Sangaré Djakaridja sealed the lead just before half-time.

Côte d’Or pulled a goal back in the second half with a fine effort from …………Mbolatovo, but never truly threatened the Ivorian qualification.

With an aggregate score of 5-1, Stade d’Abidjan have booked their ticket for the second qualifying round of the Caf Champions League, where they will meet Petro Atletico of Angola. The Angolan team collected two wins on identical score –  3-0 – against Cercle de Joachim of Mauritius for a 6-0 win on aggregate in the preliminary round.

A record-breaking 120 football clubs across the African continent will be taking part in the two flagship competitions.A total of 62 teams are contesting the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, while 58 are taking part in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Matches counting for the second preliminary round will kick off between October 17 to 19, while the second leg is set to for October 24 to 26.

The successful sides will earn their place in the group stage, which kicks off on November 21, 2025.

From there, the best of the best will battle through to the knockout stage, starting on March 13, 2026, with the dream of lifting African football’s most coveted club trophies.
