Diabetes across life stages
World Diabetes Day, celebrated annually on November 14, is a reminder for us to spread the word about diabetes. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), the number of people living with diabetes increased from 200 million in 1990 to 830 million in 2022.
With millions of people around the world living with the disease, alongside thousands who die every year due to complications, it is important to ensure that you are aware about the seriousness of the condition. This includes its impacts on the health and daily life of those diagnosed with the disease, as well as the short and long-term complications that result largely from poorly controlled diabetes, and inappropriate or poor compliance to treatment. It is also an opportunity to focus on prevention, for certain types of diabetesand the importance of early diagnosis.
