‘A Mission of Hope’: Remembering Gérard Hoarau 40 years on

 

Families, friends and members of theGérard Hoarau Foundation on Saturday morning attended a memorial service at the St Paul’s Cathedral in Victoria to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the assassination of exiled opposition leader Gérard Hoarau.

Mr Hoarau was assassinated on November 29, 1985 by an unidentified gunman on the doorstep of his home in Edgware, in North London. He was the head of the ‘Mouvement Pour La Resistance’ (MPR), an opposition group based in London in the 1980s, that was fighting against the France Albert René regime, which had come to power on June 5, 1977 in a coup d'état. His body lies in the Isleworth cemetery.
