German Andre Wiersig successfully swims from Mahe to La Digue
After a first failed attempt, German extreme swimmer Andre Wiersig, on Saturday, finally accomplished his dream of becoming the first person to swim across the channel from the island of Mahe to La Digue island.
Wiersig, who swam without technical aids, covered the 51-kilometre open water in 13 hours. He started at 11.30pm on Friday (28.11.2025) at the Carana beach, Glacis, to reach his destination, precisely near the Old Pier Café at L’Union Estate, at around 12.30pm on Saturday. He achieved the feat with the support of local partners and his team from Germany.
