57% of the population identified with a disability are female
At the national level, 57 percent of the population identified with a disability are female, while 43 percent are male. This reflects a higher reported rate of functional limitations among women.
According to the Functional Limitation Thematic Report released by the National Bureau of Statistics Seychelles, an average of 1,845 Seychellois receive Disablement Benefit each year. In 2023, 2,035 individuals benefitted from the Fund, costing approximately R155 million.
By district, Baie Ste Anne reported the highest number of disabled males (75 individuals), while Anse Aux Pins and Anse Royale each recorded the highest number of disabled females (114 individuals).
