The magic of the Christmas tree in Seychelles homes |11 December 2025
When the tree goes up, Christmas begins! There is something truly enchanting about a Christmas tree. Its twinkling lights, colourful baubles, and ornaments, along with its scent, instantly fill our homes with festive cheer.
As a child, I remember my mother using a large branch from the casuarina tree as our Christmas tree – a popular tradition at the time. It was my favourite season of the year. Everywhere we went – homes, offices, churches, even restaurants – these trees stood proudly, their heavenly scent filling the air. People decorated them with bright balloons, tinsel, garlands, and handmade ornaments, often with little Santas. Even if the tree wasn’t grand, the fragrance of casuarina transformed the room, making Christmas feel truly magical.
In Seychelles, the sight of a decorated tree marks the start of the holiday season, bringing families together to celebrate, create memories, and share in the joy of Christmas.
