Indian HC calls on Speaker Azarel Ernesta

Speaker Azarel Ernesta and HC Rohit Ratish addressed several key topics of interest

The Indian high commissioner to Seychelles, Rohit Ratish, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Azarel Ernesta.

High Commissioner (HC) Ratish conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the Hon. Speaker, highlighting the significance of meeting the first female Speaker in Seychelles’ history. The discussion then turned to the longstanding relationship between the two nations, during which both parties reflected on previous capacity-building training initiatives and the potential for their reinstatement for the benefit of both countries.

The high commissioner then revisited the India-Seychelles Parliamentary Friendship Group established in 2017, with Speaker Ernesta expressing the need to revitalise this partnership given the numerous outstanding projects that remain to be advanced.

Speaker Ernesta further addressed opportunities for capacity-building and training for National Assembly service staff, as well as the value of a benchmarking or official study visit to strengthen the National Assembly’s performance as a legislative and representative institution.

She highlighted the strengths of the Indian legislative system, particularly its advanced broadcasting and filming structures, which could provide insights and beneficial ways forward for the National Assembly’s Media Operations Division.

Speaker Ernesta expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to engage in such productive discussions with the high commissioner, concluding the meeting with the exchange of tokens of appreciation.
