More than 18,000 corals outplanted – a major milestone for reef restoration

 

With the end of 2025 marking five years of outplanting nursery-grown coral colonies under the regional United Nations Development Programme Coral Reef Restoration project, the Marine Conservation Society Seychelles has reached a significant milestone as it enters the project’s final year.

To date, 18,101 nursery-grown coral colonies have been outplanted across five restoration sites. The majority of restoration work has taken place within the Ste Anne Marine National Park (SAMNP), where 16,678 coral colonies have been outplanted across four restoration sites, restoring approximately 4,280 square metres of reef habitat.
