Nation mourns passing of businessman Lee Weeling
Seychelles NATION has learned with sadness of the passing of Chinese-born businessman and wholesaler/retailer, Lee Weeling, late on Monday night.
The Mont Fleuri resident, owner of the Lee Weeling (Pty) Ltd shop located opposite the Mont Fleuri playing field, was 97 years old.
Mr Weeling was a well-known and respected figure in the Mont Fleuri community. In an interview given five years ago on the occasion of Seychelles’ 250th anniversary, he shared that his shop was the first ever to be built in Mont Fleuri. He had purchased the plot of land using money earned while working as a baker. His iconic building, with its ancient architecture, remains a familiar landmark and continues to attract customers daily with its wide range of items, from stationery to clothing.
