New Assomption coast guard base to be under Seychelles command

The governments of Seychelles and India have agreed to construct a coast guard base on Assomption Island, following President Patrick Herminie’s official state visit to India from February 5 to 10.
The announcement was made yesterday morning during a press conference at State House, where President Herminie outlined the outcomes of his visit. He was joined by several cabinet members, including Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources Marie-May Jeremie; Minister for Health Dr Mervin Fanny; Minister for Education and Human Resource Development David Pierre; Minister for Tourism and Culture Amanda Bernstein; and Minister for Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation Veronique Laporte.
