End of an era in Mont Fleuri
Growing up in Belvedere, the Mont Fleuri strip was my stomping ground. A handful of Chinese shopkeepers had chosen the stretch between the cemetery and the Botanical Garden to set up shop. They all catered to similar needs, but Mr Lee Weeling’s store stood out – larger, better stocked, and always welcoming. He greeted customers with a smile, and his wife matched his warmth. Their shop, a blend of Chinese and Creole styles, seemed to contain everything one could want – from a quick snack to those colourful metal-handled pails.
