Ella Pool-Laurence, Samantha Nodyyn, and Geva Remie emerged as the top three graduates out of 23 women in the ‘Fisheries Building Management Course – Advanced Level Four’, during a ceremony held yesterday morning at Fishtail/Spice Restaurant.
The six-month programme was designed to empower women in artisanal fishing and fish processing with a strong focus on improving packaging and marketing of blue economy products. By bridging traditional fishing practices with modern business management, the course aimed to boost market access and profitability.
Held every Thursday, sessions combined theory with practical training. Participants learned about business strategies while also gaining hands-on experience at sea – joining fishermen on boats, catching fish, cleaning, and preparing them. This immersive approach gave the women a deeper understanding of the entire fisheries value chain, from harvesting to product preparation and sale.
