Seychelles participates in African SIDS Solutions and Investment Forum
Principal Minister Wallace Cosgrow, who also serves as Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy, led the Seychelles delegation to the African SIDS Solutions and Investment Forum, held from March 3–5, 2026 in São Tomé and Príncipe.
The forum, supported by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) through its ‘Hand-in-Hand Initiative’, was held under the theme ‘Big Ocean States Leading the Wave of Agrifood Systems Transformation’.
Shared challenges of African SIDS
African small island developing states (SIDS) – Cabo Verde, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritius, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Seychelles – face common challenges in their agrifood systems, including:
- Heavy reliance on food imports
- Vulnerability to climate change
- Small domestic markets
- Fragile ecosystems increasingly threatened by climate variability and sea-level rise
