From crisis to opportunity: Seychelles eyes renewables amid oil turmoil

The escalation of conflict in the Middle East has triggered a sharp increase in global oil prices, with Brent crude surging significantly in early March 2026 before partial stabilisation.
International benchmark Brent crude reached highs near US $119.50 per barrel amid fears of prolonged disruptions to production and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, before settling around US $91–92 per barrel as of March 11, 2026.
This volatility stems from damage to key facilities, reduced tanker traffic, and supply constraints from major producers in the region.
