World Water Day – March 22 |23 March 2026
‘Protecting water today protects the future of Seychelles’ – SUM
“Water is one of our most precious resources in Seychelles. As a small island nation, our freshwater supply depends largely on rainfall, rivers, wetlands and managed systems that serve our homes, businesses and communities.
“Periods of drought and changing weather patterns remind us how vital it is to protect this resource. Reliable water supports public health, tourism, agriculture and every Seychellois family.
“In the face of climate change, every household must act. Rainwater harvesting with proper storage tanks offers a simple, effective solution. It reduces reliance on public supply, lowers household bills during this high cost-of-living period, and helps us manage our limited island resources responsibly.
“World Water Day reminds us that safeguarding water is a shared responsibility. Conserving at home, protecting watersheds, and adopting rainwater harvesting all secure this vital resource for future generations.
“The Seychelles United Movement (SUM) calls on every family to reflect on the value of water and use it wisely today.
“Protecting water today protects the future of Seychelles.”
