Taking Seychelles’ heritage beyond museum walls
As Seychelles prepares to mark International Museum Day on Monday, efforts are underway to bring the nation’s heritage closer to the people, despite the closure of the National Museum of Natural History.
Beryl Ondiek, director of the Seychelles National Museums, highlighted ongoing initiatives designed to keep culture, history, and education accessible. She emphasised that museums must evolve beyond the traditional concept of “four walls” to reach communities across the country.
“Since the Natural History Museum is closed, we are embracing the idea of a museum without walls. We go out to schools and districts to share what natural history heritage is all about,” Mrs Ondiek explained.
