Victoria shines brighter with streetlight upgrades
Residents and visitors travelling through Victoria are once again enjoying the welcoming glow of fully illuminated Independence Avenue, following recent repair works carried out on several lampposts in the area.
The initiative follows scouting exercises conducted by the Mayor’s Office to identify locations across the capital requiring improved lighting and maintenance.
Over the past weeks, repair works were undertaken on damaged and non-functional streetlights along Independence Avenue, restoring lighting throughout the avenue and significantly improving visibility and safety.
The fresh appearance of newly painted roads combined with brighter streets has brought renewed comfort and a stronger sense of security to the city, contributing to ongoing efforts to make Victoria cleaner, safer, and more attractive for both residents and visitors.
This achievement reflects continued collaboration between the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Land Transport in enhancing public infrastructure and improving the overall environment of the capital.
Chief executive of the Seychelles Land Transport Agency, Parinda Herath, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that a safer and better-lit Victoria contributes positively to community wellbeing and encourages greater public confidence in the city, especially during evening hours.
The Mayor’s Office remains committed to working closely with partner agencies to identify and address areas requiring further improvement as part of broader efforts to modernise and beautify Victoria – especially as the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of independence.
