Ceps warns of risks to media independence in SBC Bill

 

The Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) asserts that the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) Bill, 2026 – as currently drafted – poses significant risks to constitutional safeguards, media independence, and public trust. The Bill was gazetted without national consultation and introduces governance structures that centralise executive authority over the national broadcaster. Ceps calls for the immediate suspension of the Bill’s progression and the initiation of a transparent, inclusive, and constitutionally compliant consultation process.
