President Herminie congratulates Prime Minister Burnham on appointment |24 July 2026

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, has extended his warmest congratulations to The Right Honourable Andy Burnham MP on his appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In his message, President Hermine stated:

“The Republic of Seychelles and the United Kingdom enjoy a longstanding friendship underpinned by deep historical ties, our shared membership of the Commonwealth and enduring links between our peoples. Generations of Seychellois have benefited from educational opportunities in the United Kingdom, including through the Chevening Scholarship Programme, while the Seychellois community in the United Kingdom continues to serve as an important bridge between our two countries.

“We also deeply appreciate the United Kingdom's steadfast support for small island developing states, including its advocacy on climate action and the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index, which are of particular importance to Seychelles.

“I am confident that, under your leadership, the strong and enduring partnership between our two nations will continue to flourish. I look forward to working closely with your government to further strengthen our bilateral cooperation and to advance our shared interests, particularly in climate resilience, maritime security, sustainable development and multilateral cooperation.

“As you assume the responsibilities of your high office, I extend my sincere best wishes for every success in the fulfilment of your responsibilities, and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of the United Kingdom.”
