President Herminie extends sympathy to Colombia’s leader

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, has conveyed his

condolences and solidarity to the President of the Republic of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella,

following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia, causing loss of life and significant damage to infrastructure across several cities.

In his message, President Herminie, stated:

“I was saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.4 that struck Colombia

on August 10, 2026, resulting in the loss of lives, hardship and uncertainty to communities

across your country.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Seychelles, I convey our heartfelt sympathy to your

excellency and to the people of Colombia. We extend our condolences to the families who have

lost loved ones, and our thoughts are with those who have been injured, displaced, or otherwise

affected by this tragedy.

“Seychelles stand in solidarity with the people of Colombia. The resilience of a nation is often

most evident in moments of adversity, and I am confident that, through the strength and

solidarity of the Colombian people, and the dedicated efforts of the emergency responders, the

country will overcome and rebuild stronger.”
