Arid demands oversight of ECS restructuring

The Association for Rights, Information and Democracy (Arid) is calling for an urgent review by the Constitutional Authorities regarding the restructuring currently being implemented by the Chair and Commissioners of the Election Commission of Seychelles (ECS).

Arid notes that under international and regional instruments, including the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG), an Election Management Body (EMB) is required to uphold basic democratic principles. These include, among others, the separation of powers between the governing and decision‑making organ and the executing arm (the Secretariat) responsible for operational functions.
