New rabies vaccine strengthens health preparedness |26 September 2026

The Ministry of Health will mark World Rabies Day 2026 on September 28 under the theme ‘Stronger Together’, with the introduction of a human rabies vaccine for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and specialised training for healthcare and veterinary professionals.

The introduction of the vaccine represents an important step in strengthening Seychelles’ preparedness and capacity to respond to potential rabies exposures.

Although Seychelles remains a rabies-free country, the local availability of the vaccine will allow for a more timely response when PEP is clinically required following a suspected exposure.
