‘Reading must remain at education’s heart’

The Ministry of Education & Human Resource Development yesterday officially launched International School Library Month and Library Week 2026 at the National Theatre, highlighting the importance of reading, literacy and the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

Held under the theme ‘Libraries, Literacy and Artificial Intelligence’, the event brought together First Lady Veronique Herminie, the Minister for Education & Human Resource Development David Pierre, education officials, school leaders, librarians, teachers and students to celebrate school libraries as vital spaces for learning, discovery and lifelong development.
