Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games open in historic first for Africa

The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games officially opened on Saturday October 31, 2026, marking the first Olympic sporting event to be held on African soil.

At the Stade Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio, Senegal welcomed young athletes from around the world in a celebration of African culture, creativity and the Olympic spirit. Featuring more than 1,100 performers, the ceremony showcased the talents of a new generation and set the stage for 14 days of sport and cultural exchange.
