Motion to annul firearms inquiry regulations rejected

The National Assembly has rejected a motion brought forward by the leader of the opposition, Hon. Bernard Georges, seeking to annul the Statutory Instrument (S.I.) 63 of 2026, the Defence (Board of Inquiry on Importation of Firearms) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026.

With 17 members voting against the motion, 13 in favour and none abstaining, the motion, which was seconded by Hon. Gervais Henrie, did not receive the Assembly’s approval.

In his presentation, Hon. Georges said the National Assembly was the only institution within the government with the authority to pass laws.
