Accident causes power outage in North Mahé

Removing the vehicle from the scene of the accident

Residents from Perseverance through to Glacis (Sunset Hotel) were yesterday morning faced with a power outage, lasting over a couple of hours, following a motor accident in the Machabée vicinity, in which a Chevrolet pick-up is said to have left the road and fallen into a ditch.

The incident, which happened between 6.30am and 7am, caused a power surge, according to managing director of PUC, Ravin Sunassee, as the vehicle appeared to have hit an electricity pole causing two power lines to clash, and causing the surge which automatically caused the electricity network at PUC to shut off as a precautionary measure.

He added that power was restored around 9.30am after technicians had conducted a routine check on the poles, as should be done in such circumstances.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Antoine Desnousse, said no one was injured in the incident and it is still undetermined what happened to the vehicle, which was apparently travelling to town from Glacis when the accident happened.
