‘Success comes with hard work and passion’
“We are all together in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic; if we fight until the end we will find peace and satisfaction. Remember that success comes with hard work and passion.”
This comes in a message from the secretary general of the Seychelles Federation of Workers’ Union (SFWU), Antoine Robinson, on the occasion of Labour Day celebrated yesterday, May 1.
Mr Robinson’s message reads:
“Labour Day 2020 comes at a time when the entire world, including Seychelles, is fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our health care professionals together with other volunteers are fighting at our frontiers to save our lives. Together with the essential and critical services workers they have been working for us day and night to make sure that we stay safe and we get our essential needs during this crisis period.
“Police and other security forces are working to ensure that the health and government orders are strictly adhered to by our citizens.
“There could be no better day to heartfully thank these hard working men and women for making our lives safer and easier at the time when Seychelles and the world is combating against this novel coronavirus.
“The SFWU, together with its affiliated trade unions, sends its sincere appreciation to the workers for their hardworking spirit. Workers you all deserve it.
“Problems and difficulties have not stopped our workers from realising their dreams throughout.
“We are all in this battle together; if we fight until the end we will find peace and satisfaction. Remember that success comes with hard work and passion.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has also reminded us that all human beings are equal. Always remember COVID-19 should not be used as an excuse to violate workers’ rights.
“As we enjoy the well-deserved day with our families and friends, we should also start to seriously reflect that starting Monday May 4, things will not be business as usual for all of us living in this beautiful Seychelles. Apart from strictly complying with the health authority guidelines, we workers will be faced with new realities in our employment situations of which we definitely have to take courageous and constructive decisions to protect our own livelihood and that of our families during this economic recovery period.
“God has given all of us the power to change this world if we have the power to work together with commitment and dedication.
“We wish all workers and their family a happy Labour Day with the hope that very soon, Seychelles and the world will be free from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“May we all stay safe.”
