National Assembly Speaker Nicholas Prea has received a copy of the first annual report of the Seychelles Human Rights Commission from its chairperson, Justice Bernardin Renaud.

Mr Renaud was accompanied by two commissioners – Barbara Carolus Andre and Roger Toussaint – during the presentation ceremony which took place on Tuesday afternoon at the National Assembly, Ile du Port.

The report contains information about the setting up of the commission in the first nine months of existence, its achievements, its challenges and it also makes recommendations for its strengthening.

The goal of the commission is essentially to ensure respect for the human rights of all human beings as a positive investment, with a durable and positive impact for peace, social harmony and sustainable development in Seychelles by embracing the rule of law.

Also present for the presentation of the report was the leader of government business Charles De Commarmond, members of the National Assembly Regina Esparon and François Adelaide and deputy clerk Tania Isaac.
