Absa Seychelles takes precautionary measures following exposure to confirmed COVID-19 case |09 July 2020
Absa Bank Seychelles has confirmed that a member of staff at the bank has been exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case. The bank, together with the department of health, has taken steps to ensure the safety of all colleagues, customers and their families by immediately facilitating the testing of the potentially affected colleague, and ensuring that fellow team members self-quarantine pending the outcome of the test results as a precautionary measure.
Absa respects the privacy and confidentiality of any individuals affected, and is unable to confirm the name and or position of the staff member in question, but the bank can confirm that they are not in a role that involves physical interactions with customers, and that they are currently not showing any symptoms. Despite unsubstantiated reports, there were no confirmed test results for the colleague as at 5pm on July 8, 2020.
Absa has been operating under strict social distancing protocols, with constant awareness efforts and socialisation of health and safety workplace best practices since the start of this pandemic, certified by the Public Health Authority. Hand sanitisers have been made available at multiple spots across our offices and branch network, and the bank has established a 24-hour hotline since March 2020 for any colleague concerns, queries, or to report potential exposure.
Furthermore, Absa has a daily health check certification procedure in place with all colleagues to ensure no potential symptoms go unchecked.
Absa reiterates and asks that the individual’s privacy please be respected and strongly condemns any sharing of the personal information or images of Absa colleagues. We strongly support the efforts of the health authorities to conduct thorough contact tracing and firmly believe that the honest engagement of potentially exposed people who come forward for testing is essential in keeping everyone safe without fear of stigmatisation.
