La Digue Home for the Elderly celebrates 20th anniversary |01 July 2019

The La Digue Home for the Elderly celebrated its 20th Anniversary on June 26.
Activities to mark the occasion started with a special mass celebrated by Father Colin Underwood, “Aumonier des Troisièmes Ages”, at the Home for the Elderly at L'Union Estate.
In attendance were the nine residents of the Home for the Elderly, their relatives, friends and a group of secondary school students from La Digue school.
Also present were the chief executive of the National Council for the Elderly, Marie-France Pereira; director of the Homes for the Elderly in Seychelles, Sylvia Stravens; board member Bibianne Fred and the administrators of Praslin and La Digue Homes.
The community came to lend a helping hand with this celebration; most poignant was the group of students who spent time with the elders in efforts to bridge the ‘generation gap’.
The mass was lively animated by a special choir from La Digue as well as the congregation. It was then followed by a lunch organised by the Home for the Elderly on La Digue. A live band from the island provided entertainment during lunch until later in the afternoon.
Fernande Ladouce, a well-known triangle player, performed classics much enjoyed by everyone.
