Surrounded by her children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, Margaret Woodfield Pouponneau expressed her joy for reaching yet another milestone as she celebrated her 108th birthday on Saturday, August 15.

To celebrate the occasion the district administrator, Rachel Joseph, presented Mrs Pouponneau with a hamper and well wishes from President Danny Faure. The National Council for the Elderly which falls under the Ministry of Family Affairs also presented her with a hamper.

Born on August 15, 1912 in a family of seven, Mrs Pouponneau grew up at Anse Royale before moving to St Louis where she now resides.

Known as a great seamstress around her neighbourhood, she has sewn a wide range of attire – from wedding dresses to school uniforms. In her old age now she enjoys reading her bible.

She thanked everyone who took the time out of their day to wish her happy birthday, and she treated her visitors with a religious hymn.
