It’s a wrap on the third Global Money Week in Seychelles! |11 December 2020

Global Money Week (GMW), an annual financial awareness campaign hosted by UN Youth Seychelles since 2018, was pushed from March to November as a result of the pandemic.

Things were slightly different this year with the presence of masks and physical distancing. However, this did not dampen the inquisitive minds of the students.

From Monday November 23, 2020 to Thursday November 26, 2020, 42 students visited 14 organisations to learn about one of the four financial educations tours on offer: Business management, Economics, Accounting and Financial crimes.

The efforts of the students must be commended as they showed interest and seized the opportunity to acquire various insights into the institutions, as evidenced by the following testimonials.

  • “It was a good, interesting tour. I had the chance to visit new places that I’ve never visited, along with making new friends and learned more about the different sectors I’ve visited. I enjoyed and appreciated the tour.”
  • “I am now open to more career opportunities and departments of different institutions.”
  • “It was very eventful and learnable, gave me a broader perspective about work and more ideas about my future.”

Moreover, the tours were made possible due to the unwavering support provided by the participating institutions namely: Absa Seychelles, Anti-Corruption Commission of Seychelles, Central Bank of Seychelles, Department of Entrepreneurship and Industry, Enterprise Seychelles Agency, Financial Intelligence Unit, H. Savy Insurance Company, MCB Seychelles, Ministry of Finance, Trade and Economic Planning, National Bureau of Statistics, Nouvobanq, Penlac, Seychelles Revenue Commission and Shreeji Group. It is safe to say that the students indeed learned about the functions of each organisation by touring the premises and asking some intelligent questions to the representatives of the institutions.

The next GMW is scheduled for March 2021. Stay tuned for more details by following UNYS’ on Facebook @unyouthseychelles.
