Seychelles Private Clinics Association launched |25 January 2021

A new association of private medical practitioners has been officially launched this month after a lengthy process of approving its constitutional act and registration.

The association named ‘Seychelles Private Clinic Association’ has as its motto ‘Together Stronger For Better Health’. It is committed to creating a positive force in the private health sector, especially during this time of the pandemic where the need for coordination, collaboration and integration of all forces in the country’s health sector is more than ever required. Wrongly considered by some to be purely a business activity, the private clinics in Seychelles, caring for many thousands of our citizens, want to unite action in the health sector and make their voices heard for raising the bar in the process of care for better outcomes of given treatments and for strengthening the trust and satisfaction of all Seychellois, both in preventative and curative medicine.

The Association has adopted the international code of ethics in its constitutional act and will operate on the basis of its firm decision that standardisation and international accreditation programmes are the only viable options to involve the private health insurance system in the country’s health sector, crucial to getting tourism and other industries back on track in the post-Covid era.

The Association is also planning to start a range of technical and educational programmes, which are widely recognised as the basis for tackling the shortage of human and technical resource in health, continuous professional development, keeping pace with the evolution of digital medicine in the world and for sustainable development in general.

It is to be an emphasised that the Seychelles Private Clinics Association is an association of organisations and not individual practitioners, whose sole objective is vested in the promotion of better health for all

The Association comprises an executive board whose first chairman is Dr Miodrag Todorović, the founder and chief executive of Panafricare clinic. Its secretary is Daniella Alis Payet from Victoria Clinic. The four other members of the executive board are all directors of private clinics in Seychelles, namely, Dr Murthy Pillay, Dr Tazio Tournier, Dr Satyen Shah and Mr Chamindika Jude Samaraweera.
