Covid-19 37,723 people already taken first dose of vaccine |11 February 2021
A total of 37,723 people out of a population target of 70,000 had taken the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by Tuesday February 9, 2021.
The figure of 37,723 represents 54% of the target population, while 6,700 have already taken their second dose, which is equivalent to 10%.
The total number of people who have taken a first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine is 25,756 and by Tuesday 6,700 of them had already taken their second jab.
As for the Covishield vaccine, the number of people with a first shot stood at 11,967 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in a bid to speed up completion of the vaccination course among the population, the Ministry of Health has moved appointment dates to administer the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine a few days earlier.
Dr Sanjeev Pugazhendhi, a medical officer, has said that the change in appointment date to give the second dose of the vaccine does not have a negative impact on the efficiency of the vaccine.
“Based on the information that we have from the manufacturer of the Sinopharm vaccines, the minimum interval at which the second dose of the vaccine can be given is two weeks,” Dr Sanjeev said.
