DRDM helps spread the message of kindness during the pandemic |28 May 2021

The Department of Risk and Disaster Management (DRDM) recently participated in an activity named Be the ‘I’ in KIND to encourage people to show compassion and solidarity towards people who have been touched in one way or another by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Be the ‘I’ in KIND campaign was launched by the Mental Health Services within the Health Care Agency (HCA) during National Recovery Week last April.
Aubrey Pharla and Genevieve Alain from the Mental Health Services explained that National Recovery Week is an annual event dedicated to giving support to the patients who are on the road to recovery from what can be considered as a ‘bad state’, be it a medical condition, from an addiction or anything else one can relate to mental health.
The two mental health professionals said that in view of the current global pandemic, the initiative for 2021 was to create a campaign around it. It has been noticed that a number of people have been affected mentally by the pandemic and one way we can all help to assist others in maintaining positive wellbeing and to eradicate stigma and discrimination is by being kind.
Staff of DRDM took part in a photoshoot in “BE KIND” T-shirts purchased from the Mental Health Services. The activity will be turned into promotional videos for the cause.
The DRDM officers also received educational materials related to the campaign and mental health and wellbeing.
The campaign will conclude at the end of 2021.
