Foreign Affairs Minister announces new posting of ambassadors |23 June 2021

Following the recent approval by the Seychelles National Assembly of two new ambassadors and in consultation with the President of the Republic, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, has appointed nine ambassadors in their new positions.

• Ambassador Anne Lafortune will be posted to the Seychelles embassy in Beijing subject to receipt of Agrément from the government of the People’s Republic of China. Subject to Agrément, she will be accredited to other countries falling under the jurisdiction of this embassy.

• Ambassador Ian Madeleine will be posted to the Permanent Mission of Seychelles to the United Nations in New York. Subject to Agrément, he will be concurrently accredited to the United States of America and other countries falling under the jurisdiction of the Permanent Mission.

• Ambassador Claude Morel will be posted in Pretoria, South Africa as high commissioner to the Republic of South Africa. Subject to Agrément, he will be concurrently accredited to African and Indian Ocean countries falling under the jurisdiction of the Mission. He will also have responsibility for Comesa, SADC and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).

• Ambassador Conrad Mederic, who was previously based in Colombo until the closure of the high commission in Sri Lanka, will now, subject to receipt of Agrément, head the Seychelles Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa and he will also be accredited to other countries falling under the jurisdiction of the Seychelles Permanent Mission in Addis Ababa.

• Ambassador Beryl Samson will remain in her current post as Seychelles Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union.

• High Commissioner Selby Pillay will remain in his post as the Seychelles high commissioner in Delhi, India.

• Ambassador Jean-Claude Adrienne will remain the Seychelles ambassador in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

• Ambassador Lalatiana Accouche will, for the time being, continue to be based at headquarters.

• The two other Seychelles Missions in Paris and London, will, for now, continue to be headed by Ralph Agrippine as Chargé d’affaires a.i and Terry Romain as acting high commissioner respectively.

Meanwhile the Foreign Affairs department has completed its restructuring exercise. With the closure of the embassies in Cuba, Sri Lanka and Switzerland, the department is undertaking a review of the jurisdiction of its various diplomatic missions.
