Seychelles observes Orange Day to raise awareness on gender-based violence
Every year, Seychelles joins the global community in commemorating Orange Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness of gender-based violence, with a focus on violence against women and girls.
The observance forms part of the UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign, launched by the United Nations secretary-general in 2008. Orange, the campaign’s signature colour, is a bright and optimistic symbol of hope for a future free from violence.
In Seychelles, Orange Day was officially introduced in September 2010 under the theme ‘Unite for Peace: End Gender-Based Violence’. Since its launch, the Family department has been leading nationwide efforts to educate communities, support survivors, and promote gender equality through school programmes, advocacy campaigns, and counselling services.
