Foundation stone laid for new Marine Police headquarters at Perseverance
A foundation stone laying ceremony was held at Perseverance yesterday afternoon to mark the beginning of construction for a long-awaited Marine Police headquarters.
The project, which has been in the pipeline since 2019, will provide a modern, unified and strategically located base for the Marine Police Unit, enabling faster vessel deployment and better coordination in addressing key challenges such as piracy, illegal fishing, and drug trafficking within Seychelles’ vast Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Commissioner of Police, Ted Barbe, said the project represents a “significant moment” for the Seychelles Police Force and especially the Marine Police Unit, whose officers have long worked in challenging conditions from scattered and unsuitable facilities.
