Women turn classroom into healthy cooking hub
Twenty women armed with solid determination turned up for Patient Solidarity's second workshop, with a focus on healthy cooking, on Saturday at English River secondary school.
The session followed the first workshop, which focused on savvy shopping and equipped participants with practical skills to stretch their grocery budgets without compromising on nutrition.
During the healthy cooking workshop, the women broke into small groups and got to work. They transformed fresh local produce such as karang and eggplant along with foreign items like carrots and couscous into colourful, aromatic dishes. They added a drizzle of minimal healthy oils here, a sprinkle of herbs there. After cooking, each group plated their creations restaurant-style, paying close attention to recommended portion sizes. Then came the tasting. Forks raised, smiles wide, the women sampled their own cooking, offering gentle feedback to one another in an atmosphere that was both proud and convivial.
