IECD champions inclusion with new speech support

 

The Institute of Early Childhood Development – Unesco Category 2 Institute officially launched ‘SPEAK UP’: Supporting Speech & Language Development in Young Childrenon June 1, 2026, coinciding with International Children’s Day. ‘SPEAK UP’ is a targeted early intervention initiative aimed at supporting children aged 3 to 5 years who are identified as performing below expected levels in the Institute’s Early Learning Readiness Assessment (ELRA) and experiencing speech and language difficulties.

The launch was attended and supported by the Minister for Social Affairs, Family and Equality, Pamela Charlette, along with the chairman of the IECD board, Dr Javier Rose; chief executive Shirley Choppy; principal secretaries; representatives from the Office of the First Lady; and officials from schools and child care services. Their presence highlights the collective commitment and steadfast support to ensure every young child in Seychelles has the opportunity to develop holistically – a vital foundation for school readiness, holistic development and lifelong learning.
