Youth and Sports department inspires one of its own

Ms Leon

Twenty-six year -old Natarah Leon, a principal liaison officer of the department of Youth & Sports, recently left the country to further her studies in the field of international relations, a field she has been working in for two and a half years now at the department.

As the liaison officer for the department, Ms Leon’s duties include being on the Francophonie committee along with partners from the department of culture and the department of foreign affairs. She liaises with international organisations, following up on different agreements signed with the Youth and Sports department, thus her growing interest in the field of international relations.

The vision of the Youth and Sports department is to empower the youth population, participating actively in the realisation of their aspirations and subsequently in national development. As part of its actions for the strategic plan, the department is always insisting on training its employees.

Ms Leon‘s journey with the department started in 2019 after she left the teaching profession. She holds a Diploma in Primary education. She taught for some time before deciding that she still wants to work with young people but in another field. She started as a research officer.

Ms Leon has always shown the interest of wanting to learn more, thus the reasons why she never refused another post even knowing that she will have to start all over again to learn the required duties. It was therefore no surprise when she expressed her desire to pursue her studies in the field of international relations for a three- year Bachelor course.

The Youth and Sports department is proud of the achievement as part of its mandate is to encourage organisations to inspire young people and allow them to realise their dreams and to lead by example. Ms Leon’s journey with the department is a good example of the department inspiring and encouraging one of its own.

In fact, the senior HR officer of the department went on to highlight that they have been doing that all along whenever they saw the need to assist a young person. They presently have two members of staff who started on the My First Job Scheme who were subsequently employed and promoted and are still pursuing their career development with the department.
