The Ambassador of China to Seychelles, H.E Guo Wei, has made a donation towards the Covid-19 Relief Fund.
Ambassador Guo Wei presented a cheque worth US $20,000 to the Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, on Thursday September 23, 2021.
Speaking after the presentation, Ambassador Guo Wei said the donation is an expression of China’s solidarity to Seychelles, in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Furthermore, it solidifies the friendship between the two countries and the support of the people of China towards the people of Seychelles.”
On behalf of the government, Minister Hassan has hailed the strong relationship that exists between Seychelles and China, while expressing his appreciation for “this generous gesture from China”.
“As we all know, managing the pandemic is very expensive, thus any support we get goes a long way to assist during this very challenging time,” said Minister Hassan.
To note, this financial donation is the third the Ambassador of China has made to assist Seychelles in its fight against the pandemic.
Last week, Mrs Guo Wei made a US $10,000 donation to the Ministry of Health, while in January 2021, a first donation of US $20,000 was made to the Covid-19 Relief Fund.
Other donations by the embassy of China to assist Seychelles in the fight against the pandemic, includes medical and daily food supplies, which have benefitted not only the government but also other organisations.
