Assembly members learn more about fisheries transparency initiative

The meeting between the members and officials from the Ministry of Fisheries & Blue Economy

A team of officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy met with members of the National Assembly last Thursday to engage and promote discussions on the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI).

The meeting involved a presentation and update on the FiTI and the 1st report that was finalised by Seychelles.

The presentation provided information on key questions regarding Seychelles’ fisheries including its sustainable management, government earnings from fisheries resources and the industry’s contribution to national food security.

The discussions were fruitful and also revolved around establishing international opportunities for Seychelles in forums such as the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Members actively engaged in the discussions and all present were eager for further extensive and comprehensive collaboration in the future.

The officials from the ministry who met with the members were Sven Biermann, Will May, Philippe Michaud, Jude Bijoux, Ameer Ebrahim and Fatime Kante.
