International Children’s Day     Maurilait Seychelles donates 2000 Yop to five schools in Seychelles

To coincide with the International Children’s Day, Maurilait Seychelles / Yoplait donated 2000 Yop to five schools – Anse Royale primary, Anse Royale secondary, Belonie secondary, Independent School and La Rosière.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Maurilait chose to celebrate our children with Yoplait.

“As International Children’s Day falls on November 20, we decided to celebrate it with the children from five different schools and donated 400 Yop (yogurt drink) to each school with a pamphlet. We also talked about adopting a healthy lifestyle and how the children can adopt a fresh dairy product in their daily life,” explained Louis D’Arifat, operations manager of Maurilait Seychelles.

Yoplait is an international brand of fresh yogurt which has been produced locally since 2019. The factory, located at Providence, employs some 25 persons. “Our interactions with the children were just amazing and our products are well known among them. They also advised us which flavour of yoghurt drink they wanted to taste.”

In all schools, the representatives of Yoplait and Panagora, Louis D’Arifat and Jasmin Talma, gave a small presentation on the benefits of fresh yoghurts and explained how the fresh yoghurt is produced. They shared that the yoghurt they produce contains live and active cultures (good for the immune and digestive system), vitamins and minerals which are essential for the growth of children.

Medge Nancy, head teacher of Belonie secondary school, expressed her joy on behalf of the school to have benefited from such a donation and shared that most of the students and staff already knew about the products and its benefits.

“We are happy that our school was among the chosen ones and also was able to learn a lot from the presentation. All the Yops will be distributed among the children and staff,” she said.

Nesta Barbe and Elissa Dogley shared their views about this activity. “We learnt how yoghurt is made and I have never tasted the yoghurt before but today I will taste it,” said Nesta.

Elissa added that after hearing the presentation she wants to try to make the yoghurt at home.

“I have been eating these yoghurts before and my favorite flavour is strawberry. I got to know how they are made and want to give it a try.”

At Anse Royale secondary the group was joined by athlete Joel Melanie and the athletic team of Anse Royale.

The programme in each school consisted of a talk on the health benefits of eating a balanced diet and the importance of fresh dairy products in the diet of our kids with a free distribution of 400 Yop per school with some other goodies. Each school had some 25 to 36 students attending the talks.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the activity at some of the five chosen schools.
