Human Rights Commission calls for greater public awareness of its role and mandate

 

The chairperson of the Seychelles Human Rights Commission, Justice Bernadin Renaud, has said that more needs to be done to educate the public on the role of the commission and what it stands for.

Justice Renaud made the comment to the media at State House yesterday morning following his meeting with President Patrick Herminie where he presented him with a copy of the commission’s annual report for 2025, as customary around this time of the year.

“It is not a non-governmental organisation. It is not an agency that advocates for reason on one side or the other,” Justice Renaud said in an interview to local media. “We will try with our budget, for us to re-educate the public on what the human rights commission is,” he stated firmly.
