The introduction of support groups at regional level shall bring the activities of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF)-Seychelles closer to the members of the collective so that no one is left behind, chairperson Roger Alphonse has said.

The message was read at the federation’s annual general meeting on Saturday – at the Women in Action and Solidarity (Waso) office at Providence – by vice-chairperson Anna Herminie-Faerber in the absence of Mr Alphonse who could not attend due to health issues.

In line with its vision to sensitise the general public in building a national goal of peace in which every citizen can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity, Mr Alphonse called upon all to identify national issues over which the UPF can at least propose further actions for the betterment of other vulnerable people.

The UPF-Seychelles is an affiliated member of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) International, an interreligious network of individuals and organisations, including representatives from religion, government, civil society and the private sector, dedicated to achieving world peace.

A non-governmental organisation in general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN), the UPF supports the work of the UN, particularly in the areas of interfaith peace building, peace education, and the strengthening of marriage and family.

The mission of UPF-Seychelles is to build a local network of individuals that seeks a practical and flexible structure focused on the needs of specific functions and programmes that serve its goal of peace.

It also seeks to be known for its results, the quality of character of its volunteers, and its principles, passionate and activism for promoting peace, while above all being a volunteer movement.

Re-registered in October 2019, after being struck of the list of the Registrar, the UPF-Seychelles is presently made up of an executive committee, along with 35 affiliated members.

Other than Mr Alphonse and Mrs Herminie-Faerber, the executive committee is also made up secretary general Rosemary Elizabeth, treasurer Jacob Terrence Madeleine and secretary Suganda Betioux.

There are also two at-large members, namely Beatrice Dubignon and Wilven Alcindor, while Brisiola Niole has been appointed as the federation’s new youth representative.
