Absa Seychelles recognises and rewards 25 long-serving employees

The two longest serving employees – Monica and Lydia – are joined by MD Van Schalkwyk and Ms Busetto in cutting a cake to celebrate the occasion

Absa Bank Seychelles has recognised and rewarded its largest cohort of long-serving employees.

The annual ceremony, which took place last Christmas eve, saw a total of 25 awardees who have dedicated 10 to 40 years with the organisation.

Addressing the awardees, Head of People Function at Absa Seychelles, Valerie Busetto, described the Absa employees as dedicated and loyal.

Mrs Busetto congratulated the employees and reiterated that Absa Seychelles remains focused on the professional development of its employees and set up an e-learning platform to upskill and further motivate their colleagues to deliver to the best of their ability.

Addressing the award recipients, managing director of Absa Bank Seychelles, Johan Van Schalkwyk said, “I want to sincerely thank all of you for your continued commitment and all that you do to deliver on our purpose of creating opportunities and providing support for our customers every step of the way.”

The awards were presented to 19 employees who have worked for the organisation for 10 years. Following this, one employee received the award for 20 years of employment, followed by three colleagues of 30 years.

The two longest-serving employees – Lydia Mellie and Monica Etienne – were rewarded for having clocked 40 years with the company.

Mr Van Schalkwyk also stated that the organisation is fortunate to have this level of loyalty and commitment from their employees.

“In this day and age, staying this long in one career isn’t the norm and should be celebrated. We should view such employees as pillars of the business as they have no doubt accumulated significant and diverse experience over the years and have been instrumental in molding and forming the earlier generation,” he said.

“Both Monica and Lydia started their careers with the bank in 1981, Lydia as a Mailing and Savings Clerk  on July 1, 1981 and Monica as a Counter Clerk on May 1, 1981. Today, after 40 years of dedicated service and hard work, Monica is now Head of Retail Control, Governance & Compliance and Lydia is Scheme Settlement Manager.”

“This goes to show the many opportunities our colleagues have for moving forward within the bank and I’m extremely happy to see such dedication. I wish them all the best as their careers continue to progress,” the MD said.
