Exercise LAMITIYE-2022     Joint Seychelles-India military exercise starts today

Exercise LAMITIYE-2022, a joint military exercise between the Seychelles Defence Forces and Indian Army will be conducted from March 22 (today) to March 31, 2022.

It is the ninth joint military exercise between both nations.

The Indian contingent was warmly welcomed by SDF officers at the Seychelles International Airport yesterday.

Troops of the SDF and the Indian Army will be jointly undertaking the 10-day long exercise. Approximately an infantry platoon strength along with company headquarters from each side will be participating in this exercise.

The exercise includes field training, combat discussions, lectures and demonstrations and will culminate into a two-day validation exercise.

The objective of the joint training exercise is to build and promote bilateral military relations in addition to exchanging skills, experiences and good practices between both forces.

Both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of well-developed tactical drills for neutralisation of likely threats that may be encountered in a semi-urban environment while exploiting and showcasing new generation equipment and technology for conducting joint operations.

The exercise will contribute immensely in developing mutual understanding and increasing synergy between both forces.

Brigadier Michael Rosette, Chief of Defence Forces of SDF, stated: “The biennial exercise is an important event in the defence cooperation between the two nation and it has contributed immensely in strengthening bilateral military cooperation and interoperability between both armies. The two militaries share a long history of friendship, mutual respect and understanding of each other. We are proud to host this exercise. The aim of Joint Exercise LAMITIYE-2022 will be to improve interoperability, comprehend and put in practice validated drills, procedures and amalgamation of new technology in sub conventional operations through numerous situations based discussions and tactical exercises.”
