Lawyer Nichol Gabriel sentenced before the court in money-laundering case   |01 July 2022

Lawyer Nichol Gabriel was yesterday sentenced to one year and six months in prison and to pay a fine of R80,000, but the prison sentence has been suspended for three years while he will have to pay the fine to ensure he does not repeat a similar offence.

The sentence was delivered by Supreme Court judge Justice Melchior Vidot following lawyer Gabriel’s involvement in the purchase of a house and plot of land as part of a money-laundering scheme. This is in relation to a case involving Natasha Chang-Tave who had already been sentenced in a drug importation case.

Lawyer Gabriel’s passport which had been confiscated by the court has been returned to him.
