Supreme Court orders destruction of deteriorating ammunitions |05 July 2022

The destruction and disposal of some 160 grenades which were among the cache of arms and ammunitions found at Laura and Mukesh Valabhji’s home at Morne Blanc last year were ordered by the Supreme Court yesterday.

Last Tuesday the prosecution filed a motion to request for the disposal after explosive experts working with the police determined that the condition of the ammunition was deteriorating and that they could explode at any time.

The Court had given the Valabhji couple a week to consider and file a reply to the motion. Back in Court yesterday morning they agreed to the request.

Meanwhile the couple, together with the other accused in the firearms and anti-terrorism case, Lesley Benoiton, remain remanded in police custody and will reappear in Court on July 18.
